坦昭斯艺术中心项目的设计宗旨，在于重新激活那条沿河而建的步行街，并且对这里旧有的住宅元素进行合理改造和重新定义。 完工后的建筑们得以通过另一种方式重新诠释，它们成为以简洁线条勾勒出层叠空间的存在，同时以其巧妙架构，融合于它所坐落的边坡地形之中，远远望去同自然浑然一体，仿佛是一处并不真正存在于这世上的建筑。 像是坠落而隐匿的“精灵”。 The project aimed to reactivate the promenade along theriver, transforming and redefining the previous residential conditions of thelocation. In this way, the building is defined as a simple and tiered volume ofspace, integrated into the slope and barely noticeable from the outside.

This consists in a sort ofinfrastructure, a continuous façade that can be read as a reinterpretation of existingsurrounding elements, which are evidences of the industrial past of this area，i.e. the overpassingpassages, the continuous modular metal structures of the bridge, the baths’longitudinal piers.

Indeed, the repetition of this particular shape and theuse of a performing insulating concrete allowed for a continuous structuralfaçade, which, at the same time, protects and characterizes the building.

坦昭斯艺术中心立面以其极度均衡且高度一致的形态，为沿河坐落的所有公共区域提供平等的连通机会——设计师将室外空间连通室内门厅，扩展且丰富了新的公共空间。 The uniform façade defines and evenly opens up to the entirepublic space along the river, connecting the outdoor space to the foyer,extending and enriching the new public space.

几何梯形状的空间留白，打造出这一完整而连续，且极具渗透性的立面外观，同时也能有效地控制了建筑内部自然光的进入。 可以说这重迭延展的立面结构，以及于它其中盘踞生长的绿植，所构成得无数极美的光影画面，是坦昭斯艺术中心建筑主入口的主要特点之一。 The geometry of the trapezoidal openings simultaneously allowboth for this extremely permeable façade and to control and shape the entry ofthe natural light inside the building. The resulting shadows given by the facade drawing and thevegetation become one of the main features of the foyer.

新坦昭斯艺术中心的原则是将建筑分割成上下两层空间，上层为私人空间，下层则为公共空间。 The programme is organized across two levels, separatingprivate uses on the upper level from public uses on the lower one.

坦昭斯艺术中心的下层由主门厅贯穿整个空间，建筑的扇扇梯形立窗，指引着人们依次进入制作间和多功能主厅。坦昭斯艺术中心的上层，则是被日常办公区和后台工作区所占据。 于这跨越上下两层的空间之中，任意一层，都可于室内享受充足的自然光照。 Here, the main foyer runs over the entire length of thefaçade and gives access to the production rooms and the main multifunctionalhall. This space, which spans two storeys, is provided with daylight on theside. The upper level accommodates the Tanzhaus offices and backstage spaces.
